Firefox Hack: Use Live Bookmarks Icon to Subscribe in Any Newsreader

The Live Bookmarks button located in the address bar of Firefox 1.5 may be the fastest way to subscribe to XML feeds but nobody is using it because people prefer to read RSS feeds inside their newsreaders like Bloglines, MyYahoo, Google Reader or Newsgator.

I am also no big fan of Firefox Live Bookmarks and prefer to Google Firefox Toolbar 2 to subscribe to XML feeds inside Newsgator.

This was until a week ago when I discovered Livelines, a handy Firefox extension that lets you subscribe to feeds inside any RSS reader by clicking the Firefox Live Bookmarks button. It gives you best of both the worlds.

Livelines enhances the functions of LiveBookmarks icon - You can choose the default Live Bookmarks, or a web based RSS reader or RSS reader extension like Sage or an external program using the feed:// protocol.

A good news for RSS addicts is that Mozilla has completely revamped the RSS feed handling features in Firefox 2.0 which is still in beta. The new Bon Echo version will let readers choose between Live Bookmarks or any Feed Reader of their choice including NetNewsReader and NewsAlloy. Till then, you can use Livelines.
