Microsoft Combines Regmon & Filemon Utilities from Sysinternals, Releases Process Monitor 1.0

Microsoft have replaced the hugely popular RegMon and Filemon utilities with a new tool called Process Monitor that has a similar UI but written from scratch by the Sysinternals team which is now a part of Microsoft.

Regmon is a Registry monitoring utility that will show you which applications are accessing your Registry, which keys they are accessing, and the Registry data that they are reading and writing - all in real-time. Similarly, Filemon monitors and displays file system activity on a system in real-time. It shows how applications use the files and DLLs.

The new tool, Process Monitor 1.0, combines the features of Filemon and Regmon, and adds some extra features like process information and simultaneous logging to a file.

Process Monitor runs on Windows 2000 SP4 with Update Rollup 1, Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Vista as well as x64 versions of Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Vista.
