Etiquette Guidebook for Chinese Tourists Visiting Foreign Countries

The next time a Chinese boards an outbound flight, he will provided a handbook of proper etiquettes with the air-ticket. The handbook will have guidelines on how travellers should behave as tourists in other countries.

Among the guidelines for Chinese travelers are to not litter, not talk loudly, respect queuing rules, be polite in public places and observe the rule of "ladies first", according to Xinhua.

The Chinese authorities have taken this extreme step after reports complaining about Chinese tourists spitting, talking loudly and being rude.

There have also been complaints that Chinese often clear their throats loudly, jump queues, take off shoes aboard planes and trains, and squat and smoke in public places while travelling abroad.

"The move aims to promote civilized behavior among Chinese travelers and restore the country's image, which has been tarnished by the behavior of some Chinese tourists," Xinhua said.

I won't be much surprised if they even ask the Flight attendants to read the guidebook for passengers before the airplane lands in another country.
