Before you board the next flight, make sure your iPod is stuffed with podcasts, music and movies downloaded from the iTunes store.Airplane Passenger will soon be able to connect their iPod to the seat-back monitors on the airplane and watch video in a more relaxing position. The 7" seat back displays will offer a better viewing experience when compared to the 2" iPod screens.
If you have a non-video iPod like the Nano or Shuffle, you can still be use the personal headphones for enjoying music stored on the iPod.
You won't need the iPod charger since Airlines seats will have inbuilt docks to charge and power your MP3 players in-flight.
In the first phase, Apple has teamed up with Air France, Continental, Delta, Emirates, KLM and United to deliver this integration between iPod and in-flight entertainment systems. In-flight iPod connectivity will be available sometime in mid 2007.
iPod connections will initially be installed on the Boeing 737, 747, 757, 767 and 777, as well as the Airbus A-380, with seat-back screens ranging from 7 inches to 23 inches.
I wonder if this would bring down the ticket prices as Airline companies may no longer have to tie-up with Disney's and HBO's of the world for providing movies, music video and other content - airline passengers board the aircraft carrying their favorite music and movies on the iPod which they would just plug-in to their seats.
The only concern could be airline security. In the past, someone dropped an iPod in the airline toilet seat causing a bomb scare.
Who knows if someone in Tora Bora finds a way to create panic in mid-air using iPods and the government imposes a ban on carrying iPods inside airplanes like they have done to shaving gels and toothpastes.
